Every once in awhile a band will come along that is able to outsmart and quite honestly confuse the record industry. Everyone knows the talent is there, they know the songs are there, but they just don’t know what to do with them. One such band is The Red Paintings from Brisbane, Australia. Lead singer Trash McSweeney is not only on the same level of musical genius as Trent Reznor, Maynard and Perry Farrell; he’s knocking on their door as we speak. The band has toured with acts like Saul Williams, The Dresden Dolls, Mogwai and are gearing up to tour Australia with Mindless Self Indulgence. When you see the band live, it goes beyond a musical performance and finds its way into a true performance art. There are live painters on stage capturing the moment on canvas, wild and intricate costumes and through it all the music itself is absolutely amazing.
Due out sometime this year, the band’s debut album titled The Revolution Is Never Coming. Surprisingly the band is without publishing deal, management, booking agent or even a proper label deal… that won’t last for long.
